Dear Faculty,
We hope that this message finds you and your loved ones doing well.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your commitment to our educational mission. We are proud of all the work that you did to prepare for fall classes and for all that you have done during the first five weeks of the semester.
Planning for the spring semester has already begun. The start date for the spring semester will be announced soon. It is our plan that courses will continue to be offered in-person and on campus in the spring and online as necessary. As many of you have experienced this semester, we have done everything possible to keep you safe and healthy while in the classroom. To date, there have been no cases of classroom transmission. In fact, we would like to share that only two faculty have tested positive since the beginning of classes and both faculty members were able to trace their exposure to contacts in their social network and outside of their classes.
As in the fall semester, we recognize that some faculty may seek special COVID-19 related teaching accommodations and/or modifications for the spring semester based on their (or that of family members under their care) CDC recognized high risk factors. Faculty requesting COVID-19 related teaching accommodations/modifications must complete and submit the form available
here by Sunday, October 4th 11:59 p.m. This will allow each Department Chair, in consultation with the faculty, to work with the Dean to determine the teaching modalities for courses, based on the most pedagogically effective practices for each discipline - within the limits imposed by COVID-19 related safety measures. Faculty who submitted an accommodation/modification request in the fall semester, and who would like to request an accommodation/modification for the spring semester, must submit a NEW request.
We want to thank you again for your continued patience and determination as well as your commitment to the success of our students by providing them with the best possible educational experience. Please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Faculty Affairs (facultyaffairs.cg@miami.edu) if you have any questions.
With much gratitude and appreciation, |
