Dear Students,
I would like to take a minute to introduce myself—I’m the new dean of undergraduate affairs. I have been at the University of Miami a long time, and I lived in Hecht Residential College for four years as a faculty in residence. My children attended Canterbury Preschool here on campus and knew how to throw up the U before they knew what it meant. It’s an honor and a great responsibility to take this position, and I hope you will feel free to reach out to me with your questions and your observations as much as you need. My responsibilities include your classroom experiences, your learning, and your growth. I’m directly responsible for Study Abroad, Civic and Community Engagement, University Registrar, Undergraduate Research and Community Outreach, Toppel Career
Center, Academic Enhancement, and Undergraduate Education.
This is your time—even under these unprecedented circumstances, marked by the pandemic and our asking ourselves important social and cultural questions. Together, we can find answers—that is what going to college means, maturing as a person, as an intellect, and into a professional. I know some of you will read this message from your own home. Near or far, we are one community. Let me represent your concerns and let’s all work together to make the undergrad experience the best, smoothest, most inclusive, and supportive that it can be. ’Canes are resilient.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I look forward to hearing from you. I will have drop-in virtual office hours every Wednesday and Thursday at 3 p.m. Please visit me at https://miami.zoom.us/j/97800825590. |
