Dear Resident Students,

First and foremost, thank you for your continued cooperation with our required on-campus COVID-19 tests. As we look ahead to Fall Break and the final six weeks of the semester, please continue to follow all public health and University guidelines that have proven to help slow the spread so far.

It is because of your compliance with such guidelines that we were able to recently change our resident guest policy. Additionally, effective today, the campus curfew will be changed to midnight, in line with Miami-Dade County. Remember, this means that you must be within your assigned building before midnight but may continue to enjoy your area’s common spaces after this time.

Even with our changed curfew, the resident guest policy that was shared on Monday will remain in place:

  • Each resident can only host one resident guest in their room/apartment.
  • No guests will be permitted after 10 p.m. or before 8 a.m.
  • No overnight guests are allowed.

Our ability to revise such policies has been driven by the data. If the rate of positive cases increases or we identify other concerning trends, we will re-visit our guest policy, the campus curfew, and other guidelines to ensure that we continue to safeguard the health and well-being of our campus community.

Even though the county has lessened restrictions on indoor dining and other establishments, we continue to expect all students to use the daily symptom checker, wear a face covering whenever you are in public, practice physical distancing, wash or sanitize your hands frequently, and avoid large gatherings like house parties and crowded restaurants.

Lastly, remember that flu shots are mandatory for all students who are on campus this semester.

  • Deadline to submit an exemption request: Friday, Oct. 16
  • Deadline to receive your flu shot: Monday, Nov. 16
  • Schedule your on-campus flu shot or upload proof of a flu shot received off campus at mystudenthealth.miami.edu.
  • Student Health Service will also be providing flu shots at the Herbert Wellness Center and in Lot 721 near the University Village next week.
  • Visit miami.edu/flushots for complete information.

I continue to be proud of you and your commitment to the health and safety of our campus community. I am especially thankful for the HRL student staff who have worked extremely hard together with professional staff to make this a successful semester so far. We only have six weeks to go, and I am confident that we will be able to finish the semester strong and in good health.

Keep up the good work,

Dr. Patricia A. Whitely
