TROPICAL STORM ETA – ADVISORY 3
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2020, 1 P.M.The University of Miami continues to closely monitor and prepare for impacts from Tropical Storm Eta, which currently is located approximately 225 miles south-southeast of Miami-Dade County. The safety of the University community continues to be the top priority.
Tropical storm conditions are expected in our area. The earliest reasonable time South Florida may experience impacts from the storm would be Sunday evening, extending through Monday.
Due to the increasing threat from Tropical Storm Eta, the following actions are being taken to ensure the safety of the University community:
COURSE INSTRUCTION

All in-person classes on the Coral Gables and Marine campuses (with the exception of those clinical rotations described below) will be conducted remotely on Monday, Nov. 9.

All remote-learning courses will continue to meet as scheduled.

Faculty are encouraged to record all Monday lectures, in the event students experience storm-related power disruptions.

Students with clinical rotations should follow the guidance provided by their clinical sites.

Miller School of Medicine students should follow guidance issued by the medical school regarding course schedules.
CAMPUS OPERATIONS

The Student Center Complex—including the Shalala Center, pool, and food court—University Libraries, and the Herbert Wellness Center will close at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, and will remain closed on Monday, Nov. 9.

On-campus dining halls will close at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8. Increased take-out options will be available for students. Resident dining will resume operations at 11 a.m. on Monday. Schedules for resident dining and other on-campus eateries are available at dineoncampus.com/miami/hours-of-operation.

For students on the Coral Gables Campus, two shopping shuttles will operate continuously until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8. Shuttle stops include Lot 721 in front of the Albenga Garage, Architecture Circle, Stanford Circle, CVS, Publix, and Whole Foods. Students can track shuttles via the University’s mobile app.
EMPLOYEE SCHEDULES

To the extent possible, employees should continue to work remotely on Monday, Nov. 9.

Medical school and health system employees should follow schedule-related messages issued by Medical Communications.
COVID-19 TESTING

The COVID-19 testing center at Pavia Garage will be closed on Monday, Nov. 9. Students whose appointments are impacted will be contacted via text message by the UScreen team with instructions to reschedule their appointment.
Students are encouraged to proactively share their storm plan and the University’s Storm Alert communications with their family and friends.
Any future decisions made regarding campus operations or class schedules will be immediately communicated to the University community.

General Emergency Preparedness Information
Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to review the general emergency preparedness steps below:

As a reminder, the University only issues evacuation orders for the Coral Gables Campus if direct impacts are expected from a Category 3 or greater storm. This is not expected to be the case given the current forecast.

Emergency Alerts: Verify that your personal and emergency contact information is up to date in CaneLink or Workday. Continue to monitor official University communications. When a situation warrants, the University will issue emergency information via mass text, voice messages, and emails. The latest information is also posted on the University homepage and University Emergency Information Hotline at 800-227-0354.

Ensure you have an emergency kit with essential supplies needed for a minimum of three to seven days.

Supervisors and unit emergency planners should confirm their unit’s continuity plan in the UReady Continuity Planning System.

Each unit’s human resources partner can use the “UM Emergency Contact Information” report in Workday to provide management with the latest contact information for all employees in the unit. Printed copies of this report should be maintained by managers and a copy uploaded to UReady.
