Dear University of Miami Community,
It is with the heaviest of hearts that I write to inform you that Charles “Himmy” Himmelrich, a senior majoring in political science with minors in entrepreneurship and classics, passed away on Friday evening. His passing was not related to COVID-19.
A native of Delray Beach, Florida, Charles was a member of Hillel and an active brother of Pi Kappa Phi. He was a Presidential Scholar at the University of Miami and recently took his LSAT with plans to attend law school after his graduation in May.
Beloved by all, Charles was extremely energetic and had a natural ability to brighten any room with his infectious smile. His entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to helping others led him to begin developing a wellness initiative with Hillel focused on mental health support for his fellow ’Canes.
Our hearts go out to Charles’ family and friends. We have been in touch with his family, the brothers of Pi Kappa Phi, and some of his close friends to convey our heartfelt condolences and to provide support. Furthermore, we are working with his friends and loved ones to plan a memorial where we can remember his spirit and honor his legacy.
If you or anyone you know needs help, please do not hesitate to reach out.
