To the University of Miami Community,
We continue to adapt to circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. With increased access to vaccines here at the University and across the U.S., we have updated travel guidance to provide more flexibility for essential business travel. The following includes a summary of changes and important information on how to reserve University-approved travel through a new travel portal.
Travel guidance changes Domestic and international travel continue to be cautioned by the Centers for Disease Control and the Florida Department of Health. Therefore, business travel should only be considered when there is no alternative to physical presence.
For faculty, international travel should only be considered when it is critical to advancing research and scholarship, such as a special archive not digitized, an archeologic site, or a biannual conference without online options.
All University-related international and domestic travel must receive prior approval by the faculty or staff member’s supervisor and the supervising dean or vice president. For faculty, approval must also be received from Faculty Affairs. Please take time to review the updated travel guidance.
Employees returning from domestic travel who are fully vaccinated and asymptomatic are no longer required to receive a COVID-19 test before returning to work. Employees who are not fully vaccinated must be tested and asymptomatic before returning to work.
Employees approved to return to onsite work should follow the guidelines outlined in the COVID-19 Return to Onsite Work policy.
Travel portal While University travel continues to be limited and also discouraged when other more cost- and time-effective means are available, a new travel portal has been launched to support approved and essential travel for faculty, staff, and students.
If you have essential travel needs and are approved to travel, University travelers or their travel arrangers are required to reserve business-related airfare through the University’s travel portal. The new portal offers greater safety and security while streamlining business travel reservations.
To learn more, visit the travel homepage, download the Travel Portal Get Started Guide, or review the travel portal training page. Before booking travel, please be sure to review the updated University business
travel policy.
Thank you for your support.
