To the University of Miami Community,
This message outlines important changes to COVID-19 safety protocols across all University of Miami campuses. Please review all material carefully.
We continue to monitor the constantly evolving COVID-19 environment and rely on our health care experts to evaluate the most up-to-date recommendations of the CDC and determine what guidelines are best for our institution.
Based on CDC guidelines from May 13, 2021, the new policies outlined below will take effect May 26.
ALL UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI CAMPUSES The use of masks in outdoor settings is no longer required on any University of Miami campus.
Daily Symptom Checker: The daily symptom checker will no longer be required for faculty, staff, and students to enter University buildings. Non-University of Miami students and volunteers must still complete the Daily Symptom Checker. UHealth patients must still be screened before entering any hospital or clinic facility.
Testing: As previously communicated, any student who is fully vaccinated and who has provided proof of vaccination to the University via their MyUHealthChart account is exempt from COVID-19 surveillance testing during the 2021 summer term. Any student who is not fully vaccinated or has not provided proof of vaccination and will be on any University of Miami campus at least twice per week during the summer term will be required to take a COVID-19 test two times per week. Unvaccinated students will continue to receive direct messages from UScreen in order to be tested twice weekly.
CORAL GABLES AND MARINE CAMPUSES Indoor mask use: Faculty, staff, and students who have been fully vaccinated and are asymptomatic do not need to wear masks indoors in administrative areas. To be fully vaccinated, you must be at least two weeks past receiving the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Masks are still required in classrooms and public spaces, including elevators, regardless of vaccination status.
Individuals who are not fully vaccinated must continue to wear masks in all indoor settings.
MEDICAL CAMPUS Indoor mask use:
-
Hospitals and Clinics: In the hospitals and clinics masks remain required at all times by employees, faculty, students, and visitors regardless of vaccination status.
-
Non-Hospital / Non-Clinic / Mixed-Use Buildings: Employees, faculty, and Medical Campus students who have been fully vaccinated and are asymptomatic do not need to wear masks indoors in administrative areas. Masks are still required in classrooms and public spaces, including elevators regardless of vaccination status.
To be fully vaccinated, you must be at least two weeks past receiving the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. If you don’t meet these requirements, regardless of your age, you are not fully vaccinated. Keep taking all precautions, including wearing a mask in non-hospital/non-clinic buildings until you are fully vaccinated.
ALL MEMBERS OF THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY If you have a condition or are taking medications that weaken your immune system, you may not be fully protected even if you are fully vaccinated. Talk to your healthcare provider. Even after vaccination, you may need to continue taking all precautions.
If you were vaccinated outside UHealth, please upload proof of vaccination to your MyUHealthChart portal.
Individuals who have not been fully vaccinated are asked to contact the COVID-19 hotline at 305-243-ONE-U if they have any symptoms and get tested per the protocol.
We are committed to updating and revising our policies as new information becomes available and guidelines are updated. |
