Dear University of Miami Community,
Due to the rise in COVID-19 cases across South Florida, and to safeguard the health of our students, faculty, and staff, we are updating several public health recommendations and requirements across the Coral Gables and Marine campuses, effective immediately.
Policies on the Medical Campus also have been revised and can be accessed here.
Updated Coral Gables and Marine campus guidelines
-
Masks: Masks are required in classrooms and indoor public spaces, as previously communicated. Additionally, we strongly encourage use of masks in all other indoor locations, including office spaces, regardless of vaccination status. Masks are not needed when outdoors but are suggested when congregating in groups.
-
Meetings: Whenever possible, we recommend meeting virtually, using Zoom or other technology, to avoid gathering in person.
-
Classes: There are no changes to classroom instruction or class schedules.
Coral Gables and Marine campus vaccine information
-
Students are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to safeguard their health and the health of all members of our University and South Florida communities.
-
Students vaccinated outside of UHealth should upload a copy of their COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card to their MyUHealthChart account. Any student who is not fully vaccinated or has not provided vaccination documentation will be required to take a COVID-19 test two times per week.
-
Faculty, staff, and postdoctoral associates employed by the University on the Coral Gables and Marine campuses are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 for the 2021-22 academic year, subject to certain exceptions, including medical and religious exemptions. Employees must receive their final vaccine dose by Aug. 1 to be fully vaccinated by the start of the fall term and must provide vaccination confirmation to the University.
-
You can submit your COVID-19 vaccination confirmation to Workday by following one of the methods below:
-
If you previously uploaded your vaccination confirmation to your MyUHealthChart account and would like validation to be automatically transferred to Workday, you must authorize release of this information. No medical information will be provided to Workday in this transfer. Click here for instructions. And for further assistance, please review this tip sheet.
-
Alternatively, if you wish to upload a copy of your COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card directly to Workday, click here to review the instructions.
-
One of these methods should be completed within one week of the Aug. 1 deadline of receiving your final dose of the COVID-19 vaccine unless you have received an approved exemption.
-
Additional information regarding how to provide vaccine documentation to the University or how to request an exemption by the Aug. 1 deadline can be found at https://coronavirus.miami.edu/covid-19-vaccine/.
-
COVID-19 vaccines are available to all University of Miami employees through the Walgreens in UHealth Tower at 1400 NW 12th Avenue. Appointments are required and can be scheduled by calling 305-702-9066. Additionally, students and employees can find vaccination locations nearest them by visiting vaccinefinder.org.
The Delta variant
-
COVID-19 is a vaccine preventable disease.
-
The COVID-19 Delta variant, which is potentially more transmissible than other variants, is the dominant strain in the U.S., accounting for 83 percent of COVID-19 cases.
-
The Delta variant is affecting young adults more significantly than other virus strains.
-
Early analysis indicates that while there have been cases of vaccinated individuals contracting COVID-19—known as breakthrough cases—these are very rare, and the symptoms are not as severe as they are for those who are not vaccinated.
-
People who are not vaccinated are most at risk for contracting any coronavirus variant.
We are committed to updating and revising our policies and guidelines as new information becomes available and we will communicate any changes. For the latest COVID-19 information and resources, visit coronavirus.miami.edu.
Let’s all work together as ’Canes to protect one another and provide a safe and healthy campus experience for everyone. |
