Dear Colleagues and University of Miami School of Law Community:
As we work to build the best possible future for the University of Miami School of Law, Professor Anthony E. Varona and I have agreed that, in addition to his ongoing role as a tenured faculty member, he will serve as Dean Emeritus, effective today.
Professor Varona served as Dean of Miami Law at a time of unprecedented disruption and challenges, and the University is grateful for his leadership and continued commitment to our success. As the formal search for new Law School leadership begins, we will build on his achievements and the important initiatives he launched during his time as dean.
Together with Miami Law’s outstanding faculty, staff, and students, we will help elevate the school through innovative programming that enhances the intellectual rigor, justice-focused scholarship, and culture of belonging that attracted Professor Varona to the U. We share a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as an appreciation for the creativity, tenacity, and brilliance of our colleagues and students.
