Dear Coral Gables and Marine Campus Community (non-UHealth/Miller School),
Recent COVID-19 trends across South Florida and at the University continue to be encouraging, with cases steadily declining since early January. And while these trends do provide reason for optimism, continued adherence to campus wellness protocols is important. The University’s response to the pandemic has been, and continues to be, an adaptive one, reflective of the latest trends and public health guidelines. In response to these trends, we are providing the following updates for the Coral Gables and Marine campuses (the Medical Campus should continue to follow guidance from UHealth):
FOOD AT EVENTS: Food consumption is no longer prohibited at indoor events. Masks should continue to be worn indoors when not actively consuming food or beverages. The consumption of food and beverages in classrooms, however, continues to be prohibited.
MASK GUIDELINES: Masks are required in all indoor public spaces. If current trends continue and local and on-campus cases remain low, we expect to update mask guidelines in the coming weeks. Our mask guidance is consistent with CDC recommendations. Should the CDC make changes to its guidelines, we will update our campus guidelines accordingly.
TESTING PROTOCOLS: Testing is an important tool in minimizing the spread of COVID-19 and will continue. Any student who is not vaccinated and boosted, if eligible, or has not provided proof of vaccination and booster is required to take a COVID-19 test twice per week. Employees with an approved vaccine exemption must continue to test once per week. Testing site locations and hours of operation are available at coronavirus.miami.edu/testing.
VACCINATION: COVID-19 case data shows that getting a booster offers enhanced protection against infection. All students are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated and boosted, if eligible, against COVID-19. All faculty, staff, and postdoctoral associates are required to be vaccinated and boosted, if eligible, subject to the exemptions outlined in Florida law. Visit vaccines.gov to find a vaccination location near you.
We will continue to modernize our health and wellness protocols in response to the latest trends and public health guidance.
Thank you for your ongoing adherence to campus guidelines and your consistent care for the well-being of fellow ’Canes. |
