Dear Faculty,
As you prepare your course syllabi for the upcoming Fall 2022 semester starting August 22, please be advised that in order to comply with federal credit hour requirements, the University will hold classes on Monday and Tuesday (Nov. 21 and 22) during Thanksgiving week. Classes will be held online only to provide students greater flexibility to travel home for the holiday break. Faculty may choose to:
-
Hold online classes synchronously, i.e., live at the scheduled time
-
Provide instruction asynchronously with a prerecorded lecture
-
Assign additional readings/out-of-class work in lieu of holding classes
For assistance preparing either online or prerecorded classes, please review helpful resources available at https://academictechnologies.it.miami.edu/.
If your course is lecture-based, you should consider recording all your classes and making them available to your students through Blackboard during the semester. Feedback from students indicates that they value the opportunity to rewatch class lectures and discussions as a study aid or in case of an absence.
If you have any questions about the academic calendar, please contact University Registrar Karen Beckett at kbeckett@miami.edu. For assistance in integrating video technology into your course presentation, contact Chief Academic Technology Officer Allan Gyorke at a.gyorke@miami.edu.
Thank you for your commitment to our students’ educational experience, and we look forward to seeing you in the fall.
