To the University Community:
With the start of the fall semester fast approaching, everyone should be mindful of campus wellness guidelines for COVID-19 that remain in place to protect you and those around you. As was the case for the previous academic year, the University’s response to the pandemic has been, and continues to be, an adaptive one, reflective of the latest trends and public health recommendations.
The following information applies to the Coral Gables and Marine campuses; the Medical Campus should continue to follow guidance from UHealth that is outlined here.
Testing: Any student, faculty or staff member experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 should contact the University’s hotline at 305-243-ONEU for the Coral Gables and Marine campuses, and 305-243-8378 for the Medical Campus, and be tested.
Students attending for the fall semester are also strongly encouraged to take a COVID-19 test at home within 72 hours before arriving to campus. If a student tests positive, the student should remain at home and isolate based on guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Testing is an important tool, which should be utilized to protect one’s health and the health of those we come in contact with while traveling or socializing on campus.
Surveillance testing will not be conducted during the fall semester unless there is a change in the state of the pandemic, or it is recommended by public health officials.
Isolation and Quarantine: The University will follow CDC guidelines, with individuals who test positive expected to shelter in place. Information on isolation and quarantine specific to resident students can be found here.
Vaccinations and Boosters: Scientific evidence continues to show that COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters are extremely effective in reducing the severity of the illness and preventing hospitalizations and death. Our adaptive strategy emphasizes the importance of vaccines and boosters to safeguard our community.
Students are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19 to protect their health and the health of others.
As a reminder, all faculty and staff members, as well as postdoctoral associates must be compliant with University's vaccination policy.
Masking: Because Miami-Dade County is currently experiencing a high level of community risk for COVID-19, the University encourages masking indoors, including classrooms, especially for individuals with underlying medical conditions. CDC guidelines on masks can be found here, along with information on how to obtain free masks.
Your ongoing adherence to campus guidelines is greatly appreciated. Remember, ’Canes Care for ’Canes.
As the fall evolves, we will be sure to communicate any changes to our COVID strategy. Good luck to all those traveling to campus in the next few weeks, and a special welcome to our newest ’Canes! |
