Below, for your reference, is the full text of President Julio Frenk’s video message (above) to the University of Miami community.
Today, fall classes begin at the University of Miami. As residential students began arriving on campus and new students participated in orientation activities, we could all feel the buzz of excitement.
The start of an academic year typically evokes the promise of new beginnings. The potential of what is to come.
For the past two years, that excitement was tempered by the disruptions and risks of COVID-19. Historically, when the world emerges from a pandemic, society undergoes palpable transformation. Transformation is exactly what the college experience should be about.
As we kick off academic year 2022-23, I challenge each of us to embrace transformation. To see the unique opportunities before us to advance knowledge. To innovate. To develop and harness technology in favor of our human family. To boundlessly explore new frontiers. And to engage in a journey of education for life.
With our centennial just three years away, we are determined to lead the transformation of higher education.
The future is evolving before our eyes. We can help shape it for ourselves, our University, our society, and our planet.
Let us make the most of this inflection point, as we relentlessly pursue excellence and relevance.
