Summer Construction Update

Welcome to campus for the 2022 fall semester.

As you familiarize yourself with our campuses, you will notice a different skyline over Lake Osceola, along with pedestrian route changes.

The University’s Facilities Operations and Planning Department has been hard at work completing numerous improvement projects and renovations while you were away.

During the summer, Hecht Residential College was demolished making way for the start of construction of Centennial Village, which will consist of a five-building, first-year village with the capacity to hold over 2,000 students.

Other new projects nearing completion include the Frost Institute for Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, the Knight Center for Music Innovation (slated to open in spring 2023), as well as classrooms, student centers, and dining improvements. Please review the latest campus map here

To improve communication, we will issue notices throughout the semester for any major changes to current vehicular and pedestrian routes. We are expecting elevated noise levels and construction dust around the larger construction sites. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to build a better U!

Safety is our top priority. We have taken precautions to ensure that students, faculty, and staff remain safe. We urge you to read and follow signage and notices around campus.

There will be dozens of construction workers on campus over the course of the semester. If you have any concerns, please reach out to us directly at anytime. Reported concerns are taken seriously and addressed immediately. We appreciate the feedback. In case of emergency, call 911 or campus police at 305 284 6666. Please report any non-emergency issues to umfdc@miami.edu.

Go Canes!
