Dear University of Miami Community,
Monday night’s tragic shooting at Michigan State University resulted in the death of three students and left five others critically wounded. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and the entire Spartan community as we continue to learn more about what occurred on campus.
This latest mass shooting is a stark reminder that everyone should familiarize themselves with the resources available to the University of Miami community in the event of an emergency. The University’s Police Department works closely with the Office of Emergency Management and the
Division of Student Affairs to continually review and update our plans to prepare for and react to an emergency.
The University’s Emergency Notification Network (ENN) is the comprehensive communications solution that allows the University to quickly disseminate an urgent message through multiple communication methods including text messaging, voice messaging, and emails. Please verify that your personal and emergency contact information is up to date in CaneLink or Workday.
A full system test of the Emergency Notification Network is scheduled to occur at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday.
Guidelines also have been developed to address an active shooter incident, and training is available to everyone on campus through the Office of Emergency Management.
If the situation is urgent, immediately call 9-1-1, or contact the Police Department on the Coral Gables Campus at 305-284-6666; Medical Campus Public Safety at 305-243-6000; or Rosenstiel Campus Safety at 305-710-7991.
Difficult and challenging events occurring around the globe are impacting many of our students and faculty and staff members, including the war in Ukraine, the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, and the migrant crisis impacting Cuba, Haiti, and other Latin American countries.
The University of Miami has resources available to help you as you process these and other challenges affecting your life. ’Canes care for ’Canes. We are here for you.
