Dear Colleagues,
As we welcome new and returning students and launch into a new semester, this is an exciting time to be part of the University of Miami family. Your contributions continue to shape the academic and personal growth of our scholars, and you are the reason they are here. For this, I am deeply grateful.
More than ever, our continued pursuit of academic excellence requires a spirit of resilience and spark of innovation across disciplines. As we address complex societal challenges, interdisciplinary work is the bedrock of our success. To this end, our AAU partnership presents exciting prospects for new collaborations and resources. Throughout the semester, I will share emerging avenues that bolster research and scholarship efforts.
Our ever-evolving pedagogical landscape is being shaped by AI technology, so it is essential that we leverage new insights to empower our work and our students. The Platform for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (PETAL) team is working to establish guidance around the use of AI in teaching, learning, and other scholarly activity. You can view the current resources
from PETAL, which will be updated throughout the semester to reflect enhancements to tools, policies, and procedures.
This summer’s extreme temperatures serve as a poignant reminder of the urgency to understand and mitigate challenges related to climate change. As scientists as well as educators and mentors, we are charged with developing the next generation of leaders and scholars. To this end, I am delighted to welcome Michael Berkowitz, executive director of the interdisciplinary Climate Resiliency Academy
, as we prepare to harness our collective expertise to address this urgent existential threat.
I encourage you to connect with your students and help promote their success in and out of the classroom. I look forward to celebrating our future achievements—for you, for the U, and for the communities we serve. Welcome back! |
