To Our University of Miami Community,
I am delighted to welcome you for the start of the 2023-2024 academic year! The return to classes is always exciting. There is a sense of possibility, which promises new opportunities for academic excellence, personal growth, and meaningful connections.
Our commitment to providing an exceptional educational experience remains steadfast. Among all the good things that are happening at our university, I would like to highlight one that provides a healthy dose of optimism as we begin a new academic cycle. On June 1, UM was invited to join the Association of American Universities (AAU)—a distinguished national organization comprised of only 3 percent of 4-year universities in the U.S.
The AAU is considered the pinnacle of higher education in this country and the world. Being selected by peers to be part of this outstanding group of institutions signifies that the University of Miami is recognized as a leader in both research and education, thanks to the talent of our faculty, the support of our staff, the strategic guidance of our trustees, and the hard work of those who paved the way before us.
AAU membership is something we must earn every day—providing further motivation for continuous improvement. It enhances our reputation, positions us to add more value to our communities, and will help us continue to attract the best students, faculty, researchers, and staff to further our mission.
As we approach our 100th anniversary in precisely 595 days, we are sharply focused on achieving the transformative goals set out in the Roadmap to our New Century—the ten-year strategic plan that is enabling UM to lead the way into the future as an emerging global university, ready to meet today’s challenges and leverage opportunities, make innovative discoveries, and deliver world-class education and health care.
Success relies on the collective spirit and unwavering dedication that each member of our community brings. Whether you are a new or returning student, faculty or staff member, trustee or alum, your presence enriches the essence of the University of Miami and contributes to the dynamic environment that we cherish.
