Dear Faculty,
As we celebrate this holiday season, I would like to thank you once again for your dedication and industry—whether in the classroom, clinical settings, or out in the community, the University of Miami delivers life-changing innovation and hope wherever we are. When you factor in our 200,000-plus living alumni, our impact is global and profound. And if you are looking for confirmation that we are indeed making a difference, just last week more than 1,000 students walked at Commencement—each inspired to use their passion for knowledge and discovery in the pursuit of new and better pathways to the future.
We all need validation that we are doing a good job, and over the past six months, I have had the opportunity to engage with many of you directly. Whether at several Faculty Conversation and Pizza with Provost Prado events hosted by our office, or at numerous other happenings across campuses, you have shared your ideas, what inspires you, and even what keeps you up at night. One of the comments I received often was your desire to connect with each other, without agendas or planned outcomes. I heard you and plan to host events in the spring with the intent to continue these conversations and hopefully create new and exciting connections along the way.
In the same vein of offering validation, I established the Faculty Nominations Committee to recognize and celebrate faculty excellence, and on May 1, we will host the Provost’s Awards for faculty, which celebrate the very best in teaching, research, and impact.
I look forward to seeing you at our gatherings and invite you to reach out any time you want to connect.
Best wishes for a happy and fruitful new year.
