Dear University of Miami community,
Following a national search, we are delighted to announce that Paul A. Pavlou will be the next Dean of the Miami Herbert Business School beginning July 1. A proven leader and accomplished scholar, Dean Pavlou currently serves as Dean of the C.T. Bauer College of Business and Cullen Distinguished Chair and Professor of Decision and Information Sciences at the University of Houston.
During his time at Houston, the Bauer College has seen dramatic improvements in rankings, experienced significant growth, and excelled in both retention and graduation. Dean Pavlou has prioritized experiential learning and job placement for the benefit of both students and industry.
At a time when Miami has become an increasingly important global tech hub, his research interests—which span several disciplines, including information systems, marketing, strategy, operations, and decision sciences—equip him to engage in interdisciplinary efforts across the institution and in our surrounding community.
Beyond Dean Pavlou’s considerable leadership abilities and administrative experience, his scholarly productivity has yielded more than $3.5 million in research grants with emphasis on data science, analytics, artificial intelligence, digital business strategy, and research methods. His research has been cited over 90,000 times by Google Scholar, and he was recognized among the ‘World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds’ by Thomson Reuters.
A Distinguished Fellow of the INFORMS Information Systems Society, Dean Pavlou earned his Ph.D. in Information Systems and Master’s in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and Managerial Studies Magna Cum Laude from Rice University.
We extend our gratitude to the search committee for its efforts to identify and recruit a candidate equipped to accelerate our drive for excellence. In Miami Herbert Alumna, Vice Dean of Lifelong Learning and Executive Education, and Interim Dean Ann Olazábal we have been fortunate to have a steady hand at the helm during this transition for the Business School.
Please join us in welcoming Dean Pavlou to the University of Miami and thanking Interim Dean Olázabal for her exemplary commitment to the U.
