Dear Faculty,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Joanna Lombard, professor at the School of Architecture, as ombudsperson for the Coral Gables and Rosenstiel faculty effective today July 1, 2024. This appointment follows a call for nominations from the Office of the Provost in December of last year.
As faculty ombudsperson, Professor Lombard will serve as an impartial and confidential resource for faculty to share concerns and explore constructive solutions. The ombudsperson provides confidential conflict resolution and shares information about policies, procedures, and formal or administrative options for addressing faculty concerns within our University. The faculty ombudsperson does not have any formal decision-making or enforcement authority. The faculty ombudsperson adheres to the ethics and standards of practice of the International Ombuds Association.
Professor Lombard is a registered architect in Florida and holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the Miller School of Medicine. She received a Bachelor of Architecture from Tulane University and a Master of Architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design. She investigates the impacts of greenness and greening initiatives, with funded projects in the area of neighborhood design and health, and she is a founding member of the University of Miami Built-Environment Behavior and Health Research Group.
In addition to her many years of service as a University of Miami faculty member, Professor Lombard has administrative experience as former associate dean in the School of Architecture and as current co-chair of the Faculty Advisory Board of the Abess Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy. She has served as chair of the Faculty Senate committees in student affairs, facilities operations and planning, and the tenure review board and has participated in multiple academic and administrative University searches.
I extend my gratitude to Professor Lombard for taking on this important role in supporting our faculty.
Sincerely, |
