Dear UM Community,
It is with profound sadness that I write to inform you of the passing of George Zilkha on Saturday, January 3. He was a junior majoring in finance at the Miami Herbert Business School, George was from Manchester Center, Vermont, and an active brother in Alpha Kappa Psi, the professional business fraternity.
George had a remarkable ability to make everyone around him feel valued and welcome. His warmth, authenticity, and infectious energy left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was the kind of friend who listened with intention and inspired others to embrace life with the same enthusiasm and courage.
George possessed a rare combination of charisma and deep compassion. He spoke with purpose and loved with unwavering loyalty. His humor, warmth, and magnetic energy were gifts to our community. He had a passion for hospitality and dreamed of opening his own restaurant in Miami, a fitting aspiration for someone who brought people together so naturally.
His faculty shared that George was an extraordinary student and an unforgettable presence in the classroom. He was deeply engaged, articulate, and always supportive of his classmates.
Our hearts go out to George's family and friends. The depth of love expressed by those who knew him speaks to the profound impact he had in his time with us. We are working with the Miami Herbert Business School to plan a memorial to honor George in the near future.
We recognize this news may be shocking and painful. Please know we are here to help.
